Japanese Koi (Nishikigoi) at JKFish

Nishiki means beautiful or elegant things. Nishikigoi are living jewels. The term has been used for over 200 years in Niigata, Japan.

Koi are symbols of love and friendship in Japanese culture. They have become cherished pets that bring peace to ponds and display aquariums.

JKFish has affiliated with Kodama Koi Farm in Hawaii and offers Japanese koi from reputable farms in Niigata, Japan.

These farms have selectively bred desirable traits such as color, size, longevity, body conformation, patterning, and graceful swimming.

Initially there were three basic koi varieties, collectively called Gosanke: Kohaku, Sanke, and Showa.

Today there are more than 200 varieties of Nishikigoi. Koi are named by color, size, patterns, scalation, and personality.
